We'll Miss You, Karin

Karin Hurley was the head coach of Temescal Masters for 13 years until she retired in 2012. She built the team from a scrappy group of people getting together to swim into a vibrant community of over 200 swimmers. She touched the lives of hundreds of people along the way. Everyone who came to the team was greeted with a friendly welcome. Faster swimmers were encouraged to focus on their stroke and slower swimmers were given encouragement to improve their stroke. We are all indebted to her.

On December 13, 2013 she passed away after a year-long fight with cancer. She leaves behind her husband and 3 children: Rhys, Aine and Ronan. If you'd like to help her family with expenses or support, please contribute to their GoFundMe page.

On April 23, 2006, Karin helped organize a swim clinic with Matt Robertson and Josh Burke. Each participant received a DVD with their own strokes as well as videos of Coach Karin demonstrating common drills and a complete stroke. Karin was a graceful and powerful swimmer, who encouraged each of us to swim long and strong. I share the video below so you can see for yourself. And perhaps take some pointers for your own stroke.
